Personal Compass Poster
Project Overview
Your creative work reaches deep into your intuitive and unconscious minds. It comes from understanding you at an intimate level. Your work is your personal voice, your visual expression. This poster project will examine the ways in which your thoughts and ideas can be interpreted and represented in visual form, offering clarity, embedded meaning and understanding to the viewer. Work with a secondary level of information and embrace the concept of calendar/time to construct a poster calendar. Your poster should be beautiful, inspiring and is designed to keep you on track and centered long after our time together is over!

Experience > Thinking > Concepts > Design
Goal
Work with a main level of information visualizing highly abstract ideas by exploring design elements, typography and diverse processes. Work with a secondary level of information of a calendar; could be for a specifc month or 2020, (all 12 months) but keep the amount of space for the calendar to less than ¼ of the format.
Brief
Think about a transformational experience(s) that has deep meaing to you. This is intentionally left open for you to interpret. Use this moment(s) as your jumping off point for the project and to form into your visual concept. Stay away from literal translation and use metaphors and story telling for your design. Let your imagination expand and don’t truncate your ideation process. Emphasis will be placed upon original concept development and the exploration of diverse processes, techniques and methods. You will be expected to experiment and explore, thereby expanding on your visualization skills.

To start this off we will conduct a class that will be completely silent for 30 minutes. No cell phones, no computers. Just a paper, a pen and your thoughts. Start by going back into your life and documenting those moments that changed you in any way. Think of things that affected you that have influenced who you are today. They could be positive or negative moments that affected you in ways that you will use as a springboard to develop a concept from.
Document these moments by writing about it, capturing the event and how it has impacted you life. These will be private (except for a private overview chat with the instructor).
As a goal focus on three key moments. Write about them, shoot for at least a paragraph on each, enough to capture the essence of that moment. After you have delved deep into this experience write five adjectives that help decribe them. In the end, you should have a written paragraph and five descriptive adjectives for each.
Now with all of this deep thinkering, find words that connect to your moments. It could be your own writing, a song lyric, or even a meaningful quote that deeply resonates with you. These words will be have translated visually into a poster.
